Welcome to the Blog!
Glory to Jesus Christ! My name is Mike. The purpose of this site is to promote the Liturgy of the Hours and provide easily accessible resources to Christians who want to chant the Hours. In St. Paul’s 1st Letter to the Thessalonians, he encourages the Church to “Pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17). The Liturgy of the Hours assists the Church in doing so by systematically praying hymns and Psalms in unity with other Christians around the world.
During my conversion as an adult, I wanted to pray and worship like the early Church, and this desire brought me to the Catholic liturgy. Through the patience and generosity of my pastors, combined with the faith and wisdom of fellow Christians, I have compiled the resources that I wish I had access to when I first started praying the Office.
The title, “Three are we” refers to Leo Tolstoy’s wonderful short story, “The Three Hermits” that tells of a Russian Bishop’s humorous meeting with three simple but holy hermits. It is a story that reminds us that while precise theology and beautiful liturgies both give glory to God, it must be built on the foundation of simple faith.
With this site, I will discuss the history of the Liturgy of the Hours, methods of chanting the Office, where to find hymns, and miscellaneous thoughts on prayer and the Christian life. My hope is that you will take up this beautiful prayer and every day grow closer to Christ and your neighbor.
